First big open-air fun in Zagreb will start on Thursday, March 28th, with a great list of dub and reggae acts. As a part of a big tour celebrating 30 years of career, the main guests of the evening will be Zion Train, one of the most influential dub sound systems and pioneers of British roots reggae sound. They will be performing in Zagreb for the first time accompanied by a vocalist Michele Grene, known as a member of the legendary Italian dub band B.R. Stylers. Today she”s successful in her solo career and sometimes performs with Wicked Dub Division band. Zion Train has won a Jamaican Reggae Grammy for Best Dub Album “Live as One” from 2007 and their founder Neil Perch is the owner of a record label Universal Egg specializing for dub, electronic and world dance music. Supporting the UK main we will welcome Digitron, the most famous sound system in the region and the first one in Croatia, this time in DJ set up, alongside Bamwise, a six-piece band from Zagreb, five musicians and a VJ, connected through mutual appreciation towards electronic dub. The warm-up will be in the hands of the young Rasta Altitude Sound (R.A.S.).

The second day, Friday, will be marked with hip-hop and currently one of its biggest masters behind the decks – the Canadian Skratch Bastid. During the last 15 years he has been spreading his skills and name all over the world, and what started on DJ competitions where he became a turntable champion, ended up with undeniable technical skills and the 6th sense when it comes to his selection. Adding up to his charismatic personality, he has become a favourite DJ among his colleagues. One of his fans is DJ Jazy Jeff with whom Skratch Bastid runs the jury of currently the biggest DJ competition in the world Red Bull Thre3style, along with Nu-Marka (Jurassic 5) and hip-hop’s great minds. He’s been celebrating hip-hop culture in Canada every summer with his Bastid BBQ events. Diverse and relaxed in different styles, hip-hop, funk, disco, club, rock, he is coming all the way from Toronto to make Zagreb’s crowd dance. The local hip-hop embassy Soul Bader, Sinke Fresh, Phat Phillie and Frx will be warming up the audience.

Saturday is promising a dance fever and is directed by M.I.L.E., a legendary name on Zagreb’s club scene guaranteeing dance, with LukadeLux, Masters’ resident DJ and a well known name at the brewery as well as Big Danny Kane, a frequent guest in the city coming every time with a warranty with his funk and disco selection. Iva was once known as Iva Starkova and after a short hiatus she’s back to show why her name is still a symbol of the local breakbeat scene and joining her is deep boogie, soul, afro master Matija Duić. Nick and Pepi, the founders of Adriatic Coasting radio show, club programme and the whole brand, will be in charge of music that makes you feel good.

First edition of A Weekend Block Party that presented dub and hip-hop legends Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Professor and Pharoahe Monch last year, established a new city festival that brought revival to the east of Zagreb, with music and diverse programming. This March we will have the chance to taste true Jamaica on plate for the first time in Zagreb and directly from the Carribean Mr Jerk will bring the finest spices and ingredients. PDV’s team will be setting up a special pop-up record store with selected vinyls, merchandise and everything that a record lover has to have.

The Garden and Pozitivan Ritam have been creating the festival scene for more than a decade and this collaborating is putting yet another mark on the country’s capital and making Zagreb one of the must-see cities in Europe.

With events spreading through Dalmatia and Istria, positioning Croatia on the world festival map, connecting knowledge and heritage, bringing artists that have been a part of the story from the beginning and creating the festival scene, A Weekend Block Party will also serve as a launch of the summer festival season, presenting 9 events in total, including Love International, Defected Croatia, Dekmantel Selectors, SunceBeat, Hospitality On The Beach, Seasplash, Outlook, Dimensions and Slurp.
